The software

Mercedes Download Manager

The official tool that downloads the map files themselves, for COMAND and hard-disc navigation. It is free and we host it. The activation PIN you buy here unlocks the map; this is how you get the map.

The list

Which row is yours

Every row is one map release. Six columns decide whether a file is the right one for your car, and getting any of them wrong wastes the download.

MarketEurope, North America, China, Japan, Korea, or Australia and New Zealand. It must match the region your car already has — a code cannot change a car’s region.
NTGThe head unit generation: NTG 3.5, 4.5, 5*1, 5*2, 5.5, 6, 7 and Gen20x. Check your VIN here and the portal tells you which one your car has.
VersionWhich release it is. The activation PIN is tied to one version, so download the same version you buy the code for.
File systemFAT32 on the older head units, exFAT or NTFS on the newer ones. A correctly downloaded map on the wrong file system will not be read.
DiskWhether the release requires USB 2.0 or merely recommends it.
File sizeThe one figure nobody can guess for you. An older head unit’s regional map can be under 3 GB; a current full-region one runs to tens of gigabytes. Read your own row before buying a stick.

Before you start

The stick, and the space

The stick has to be bigger than the map. That is the whole rule, and it is the only one that always holds. Sizes vary enormously — an older head unit’s regional map can be under 3 GB while a current full-region one runs to tens of gigabytes — so read the size off your own row first. A 64 GB stick covers the largest of them.
The disc space is a separate requirement. The Download Manager stages the files on your system drive before writing them out, so you need room there as well as on the stick — up to about 64 GB for the biggest maps. Both, not either.
Windows only. There is no macOS or Linux build. A Windows virtual machine with USB forwarding works, and is the only way round it.
We sell the PIN, not the map. The downloader is free. We do not troubleshoot USB, download or map file problems.
